Conversations concerning public expressions and involvement of the evangelical community.

Thursday, June 22, 2006

The time has come to end my lament towards the evangelical movement in America. My final challenge to evangelicals is to remember Jesus' story of the publican and sinner who went into the temple to pray. Too often, I'm afraid, the evangelical mindset resembles more the publican than the sinner. Certainty with God can very easily lead to pride. Salvation by faith alone must never lead to presumption. God remains God over all and sovereign over all creation and all his creatures. Christ did not come to provide propositional access to God but to drive us to the impossibility of salvation through any efforts of our own. Religion was proved by him to be ineffective and counter-productive. In the words of the Apostle Paul: "But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ." My prayer is that God might use my blog for the furtherance of his kingdom. God willing, I will begin soon in a more constructive vein.
