A synopsis of my primary viewpoint is that the evangelical community, particularly the more visible expressions of this community, misunderstands the role of the church in society. In its attempt to shape American society these evangelicals unfortunately appeal to the very aspects of society which the church should be trying to transform. A political, rather than biblical, form of power informs the movement and the materialistic idolatry of American society is re-enforced, rather than challenged, through the church's failure to address its own materialistic measures of achievement and success.
