Conversations concerning public expressions and involvement of the evangelical community.

Evangelicals' attempt to use political power to effect the transformation of society reveals their lack of confidence in the very gospel they preach. Early influence of Christians on the Roman Empire was due to the gospel itself and not to any appeal to the Roman legal system. The Great Awakening in America did not come as the result of legislative enactment. Laws do not create morality; they reflect it. When Americans are morally persuaded, moral laws will result and not vice versa. True evangelical influence will be seen first in cultural transformation caused by the power of God and that power will not be seen until evangelicals renounce their own dependence on materialistic and political measures of success.
