Power of God

Very simply, God's power remains his. It is not ours to use or to apply. And God remains sovereign in his usage. He has, however, demonstrated its epitome: the cross. And the effect of the cross is to render all other means powerless. Apparent human means may attract but not transform. The attraction is to the natural state of man which seeks for self-preservation, self-improvement, self-advancement, self-wellbeing and self-comfort--but not self-denial. No wonder in the American environment of self-promotion and success these apparent expressions of God's power seem so inviting--but not transforming.
